Finding Jane Crow: Civil Rights and Women’s Rights in Pauli Murray’s Contacts

Location: John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute in Smith Warehouse, Bay 5 in Durham, North Carolina

This exhibit centers on Pauli Murray’s social networks as reflected in her 1960s address book. 150 activists committed to racial and/or gender equity are included in the more than 680 address entries. These people’s stories helped Pauli Murray define and fight “Jane Crow.”
