Carroll Street Block Festival – August 24 @ 10 a.m.

Meet the extraordinary African Americans from Durham’s West End that shaped Durham’s History.

Please join us on August 24th from 10am-2pm for a Carroll Street Block Festival honoring West End & Lyon Park Residents who are Durham history makers.

Artist & Athlete Ernie Barnes, First Downtown Durham Black Salesperson Daisy Gunn, Activist, Writer, Episcopal Priest Pauli Murray, Attorney William Marsh Jr., Civil Rights Activist & Educator Benjamin Ruffin, Jazz Musician Yusuf Salim, and Black Restaurant Owner Peggy Tapp.

At the festival you can learn  more, meet the honorees’ families, play games, and enjoy local music and food. This event is being planned by current and former neighborhood residents and co-sponsored by the Pauli Murray Center. We are closing the block of Carroll Street from Morehead Avenue to Yancey Street. Parking is available at First Calvary Baptist.
