Guidelines for the 2014 Youth Prophecy Poetry Contest
Join us in uplifting Pauli Murray’s legacy by submitting a poem that embraces themes such as human and civil rights, social justice, identity, and Durham history.
All poems must be original pieces, and all contestants must be between the ages of 12 and 19 and residents of Durham, NC.
Poems by more than one person will be accepted and judged as a single entry. Each contestant may submit up to two poems.
Poems will be accepted from February 1-March 31. Mail or email the Youth Prophecy Poetry Contest Cover Sheet with all submissions.
There are two ways to submit poems and each kind will be judged in two age groups, 12-15 and 16-19. The two categories are:
-Poems may be no longer than two pages
-Must be in 12pt font and single-spaced
Live Performance/Spoken Word:
-The performance may not be longer than three minutes
-Send an audio/video recording of the piece to email@example.com along with a written copy and the information sheet
-Only one live performance entry per person
Prizes (for each age group) are as follows:
1st place – $100
2nd Place – $75
Honorable Mention – $50
